Newsom for CA Governor???

Potentially so, according to an article in the Los Angeles Times. According to the article, Gavin Newsom, the Mayor of San Francisco (who doesn't require any introduction), has launched an exploratory committee to see if he could clinch the democratic party's nomination for the 2010 election. To get the nomination, he will get past a big field of other democrats, including former Gov. Jerry Brown, Lt. Gov. John Garamendi, and former Controller Steve Westly.

Unfortunately, the Governator will not be able to run again due to term limitations, and the only Republican who is likely to run is the Insurance Commissioner, Steve Poizner.

On a personal note, I find it interesting how the people of California choose a bad Governor (Davis), throw him out mid-term and replace him with an only somewhat better Governor (Arnold), and now the possibility looms that the people of California might elect someone who would not only be a terrible governor, but might also cause California to usurp Vermont's position as the laughing stock of America.

Makes sense to me by reldim

I see why he's doing it. When he did the whole gay marriage stunt a while back, wasn't it obvious he was trying to get attention? Isn't his whole demeanor that of a man who is not content with the relative "small potatoes" of being just a mayor?
