KS-02 Family Research Council Action Endorses Ryun, Calls Jenkins Anti-Family

Former Congressman Jim Ryun today received an important endorsement in his primary battle for his old seat in Congress from FRC Action, the legislative arm of the Family Research Council.
FRC Action also makes it clear only one of the three people in the race were in line with there very particular agenda:
WASHINGTON, May 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, FRC Action, the legislative advocacy arm of the Family Research Council endorsed Jim Ryun representing the 2nd Congressional District of Kansas.
"When looking at his opponent in both the primary and the general elections, it is very clear that Jim Ryun is a true friend of the family," said David Nammo, Executive Director of FRC Action. "Additionally, he won the FRC Action True Blue Award five consecutive times while in Congress."
While in Congress, Jim Ryun co-sponsored the Marriage Protection Act, the Right to Life Act, the Human Cloning Prohibition Act, the Religious Freedom Amendment, the Make Marriage Tax Relief Permanent Act and the Death Tax Repeal Permanency Act.
In comparison, Lynn Jenkins largely supports abortion rights, except for late-term abortions, according to the Politico newspaper. She also received $5,000 from the pro-abortion group, the Republican Majority for Choice PAC; and she received $4,100 in donations and in-kind contributions
from the WISH List PAC, which works to elect pro-abortion Republican women."You do not receive that much money from pro-abortion groups without being pro-abortion," Nammo said. "By contrast, while in Congress, Ryun sponsored legislation that protected life and the family as well as the family's pocketbook. He is the clear choice in this race and why we are pleased to endorse him for Congress."
After Lynn Jenkins' statements regarding a desire to increase taxes to pay for social programs, and her long dedication to pro-abortion positions, it isn't surprising Ryun continues to outshine her in district polling- currently leading her 50-34
Congressman in deeply partisan districts that get bounced have a long history of coming back in the next election. If you don't believe me, ask Ted Strickland (unfortunately).
That said, I'm a bit worried that this primary might be undermining our ability to take back this district. Kind of like a mini Obama/Hillary fight.

BTW, minor nitpick - Strickland's district was actually a leaning Republican district when he won it in 1992 and 1996. :)
I agree that Ryun isn't the best choice.
Ryun never should have lost this district. He beat Boyda, who is a terrible candidate, by twenty points in 2004. He lost in 2006 largely because he wasn't paying attention. Unlike Melissa Hart's district, in this district we have another strong candidate, so I would go with Jenkins here. (Had Lynn Swann run in Hart's district, I would have backed him over her.)
We can't afford any mistakes this year, and Ryun does not inspire me with great confidence.
but lynn's not an option. she might as well be a democrat
that has driven a big split in the KS GOP allowing the GOV, LTG and KS-02 to fall into D hands? I think KS is ground zero for seeing what the effects of running moderates out of the party does. Big surprise, they leave and become moderate Ds and win elections.

We don't need to run pro-abortion Chafee-esque candidates in R +10 districts. I don't have a problem with running folks like Ogonowski in Dem districts, but not in Kansas - which is perhaps the most Republican state in the country.
I only questioned Ryun because he lost the seat in 2006.

It's not just this one election. In KS, the moderate and conservative wings of the GOP have been killing one another. An ex-state chair of the GOP switched parties and got elected a D Lieutenant Governor.
Comments like the one above are a part of the problem and have led to the schism that is hurting Rs chances. Brownback is term limiting himself, if Napolitano (of the ex-GOPer LTG) gets that seat it will be in part b/c of the intraparty fighting.
Maybe Ryun is the best candidate, but this kind of rhetoric and attacking is exactly what pushes people out of the party. We may find Lynn Jenkins as a statewide D after the primary if there are enough people who think like this guy.
Yeah, she's pro-choice. She also choose to be an R and won statewide. If she "very liberal" why is she an R? My guess is she's pro-choice not "very liberal" but we like to litmus test these things.

....like Jenkins who tend to favor increased government, increased spending, energy taxes, and various other liberal schemes, then people turn around and blame Republicans for "acting like Democrats", which is the situation we have now. I have no problem with Lynn Jenkins being in the party, and I'd love to have her run in New Jersey or Connecticut, but not in a ruby red district like KS-02 where we can get a rock-ribbed conservative.
Second, Mark Parkinson, the former GOPer who is now a Democrat LTG, is no moderate. He has sidled up with the left-wing of the KS Democrat party and routinely attacks Republicans. He's not some middle-of-the-road moderate D who was a former R.

Sebeilius, not Napolitano. Napolitano is from AZ.

kansasconservative1 is the Jim Ryun campaign and should be taken down due to violations of the posting rules. This was a new account established several weeks ago and they have made only two posts, both blasting Lynn Jenkins. Pathetic attempt to exploit this website for his political gain.
as far as i know the ryun people have no idea i even exist, let alone post. i just don't like lynn jenkins, i think she's wrong for the district, and i think jim ryun is the right candidate for the district.
just because i support jim doesn't mean i'm part of his campaign, or are the 9,000 people who gave him money last quarter all staff, too?
kansasconservative1 = Jim Ryun's son.
Plus I'm pretty sure he (Jim's kid) worked for the FRC.
If we continue, as conservatives, to give the moderates what they want, we are going to continue to have what the moderates have given us in the last two special elections in Illinois and in Louisiana, Democrats. We need to give them their own medicine and get rid of these liberals and moderates who hold office as Republicans but do nothing except try to destroy the principles our party has always stood for. I would much rather have a liberal or moderate Democrat than a liberal or moderate Republican. At least they are not destroying our party.
You realize that KS-02 had a conservative R (Ryun) who lost to Democrat Boyda in a R+10 district in 2006. This wasn't "moderates destroying the party" it was someone too conservative for a very conservative district.
But you got your wish. You have moderate Democrat Boyda in the R+10 district. Hope you like it.

I wish the Kansas GOP could get its act together because you are only helping the Dems. You lost Gov Mansion, 2 Congress Seats, and AG and its showing what this battle is doing

....but is it smart to run him against Boyda in 2008, given that he lost the seat in 2006? This is a Republican district that the GOP really needs to take back.
