Mercosur Demands Lebensraum

The South American trade union demands that its people know no boundaries, according to the BBC:
The EU laws, due to come into force in 2010, could see illegal immigrants held for up to 18 months and face a five-year ban on re-entry if expelled.
....In a joint declaration, [Mercosur leaders] rejected "every effort to criminalise irregular migration and the adoption of restrictive immigration policies, in particular against the most vulnerable sectors of society, women and children".
They used to call this sort of thing an invasion, sending your people across national boundaries and demanding full rights to that territory. If the EU caves on this, I bet Hitler would be kicking himself right now. He might have had Poland without a fight had he just demanded an end to "restrictive immigration policies."
of my copy of William L. Shirer's "The Rise and Fall of the Thrid Reich found nothing on "restrictive immigration policies," although according to Hitler's Second Book, he praised the restrictive immigration policies that the U.S. had place in the late 1920's.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.
BTW, Shirer's book is masterful. I was especially gripped by the chapter, Gotterdammerung, about Hitler's last days in the bunker, when he was alone and very made.
But, again, I was kidding when I said that Hitler seized Austria and the Sudetanland because of their "restrictive immigration policies." Actually, he did it because he believed they were part of Germany taken away after the humiliation of Versailles.
I mean, he did write about the German people being hemmed in. It wouldn't surprise me what you said :-)
Actually, Austria and what became Czechoslovakia had long (centuries) been part of the Hapsburg Empire. Neither one (nor any part of what was them during the post-1918 period) was ever part of any sort of German federation of any kind.
What Hitler was using as an argument was that the "German" (German-speaking and culturally-German) people should all be unified in one country. He was just ahead of his time - see "La Raza"....
The "Lebensraum" argument went even further - that the unified German people needed more land. That was supposed to be supplied to the east, largely at the expense of Poland and Ukraine, from which the Slavs were to be driven out and replaced....
These chumps are saying that all of South America isn't enough for them, and they need land at the expense of all Europeans...
Given the demographics in Europe, can you blame them? There's a big chunk of territory sitting there depopulating at a furious rate.
BTW, I still think that one of the really big "sleeper" stories of the 21st century is going to be the big vacuum that's emerging in Siberia. Russia is in demographic collapse, and China actually isn't far behind. That leaves an awful lot of resource-rich real estate just sitting there. (More on this a little later - hopefully a diary entry before it gets too late....)
This time, with ROBOTS.
we're going to appreciate Bush for this down the road:

That's ok, I'm sure the citizens of the different EU countries will be able to defend themselves from any criminal acts these illegal immigrants do.
I mean, they're armed, right?

when he snagged Austria and the Sudetenland?
