The Real ID Act of 2005 has been shot down in Arizona.
On Tuesday, Gov. Janet Napolitano signed a measure, House Bill 2677, barring Arizona's compliance with the Real ID program. In so doing, she called it an unfunded federal mandate that would stick states such as Arizona with a multibillion-dollar bill for the cost to develop and implement the series of new fraud-proof identification cards. Arizona Republic.
I didn't think Gov. Janet had it in her.
Arizona and the election of our governors is a mystery that could be a Twilight Zone episode.
Since statehood, only 1/3 of the governors have been Republican. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governor_of_Arizona
But when we do elect elect a Republican into the Governorship, oh boy do they go hog wild. Case in point Evan Mecham and Fife Symington.
It's probly the heat though.

The influx of Californians and northeasterners over the last decade (of which I'm one) has really changed the state. There's also the fact that Southwest conservatism tends to be more libertarianish than, for instance, the flavor found in Tennessee or Georgia and the last several years of GOP leadership has not been popular with these types (of which I'm also one). Since as far most people are concerned there are only two parties, the democrats gain from this stuff. If the GOP nominee were anyone but McCain, I'm convinced that Arizona would be in play this year.

Sign Newt's Drilling Petition. I have included a link to it in the below. Thank you.

How does a state like Arizona end up with a Dem gov.? I've spent a lot of time in Phoenix and surrounding areas. I would have thought the state was too red for a Janet Napolitano.
