Gordon Trowbridge / Detroit News Washington Bureau
President Bush will attend a Michigan Republican Party fundraiser in Livonia this month, state GOP Chairman Saul Anuzis announced on his blog Saturday.

The White House did not immediately confirm the report Saturday.
Granholm: Obama to give full votes to Mich, Fla delegates
6/14/2008, 3:07 p.m. EDT
The Associated Press
LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Gov. Jennifer Granholm says she has gotten personal assurances from presidential candidate Barack Obama that he'll restore the full voting rights of Michigan and Florida's national convention delegates.
Granholm says Saturday during a conference call with reporters that Obama told her he plans to make sure delegates from both states get their full votes.
The change would be made by the credentials committee at the start of the Aug. 25-28 national convention in Denver.
Both Obama and McCain need this state's electoral votes, but the state needs solutions, not just campaign slogans
June 15, 2008
Barack Obama will be back in Michigan Monday. John McCain is already spending hundreds of thousands of dollars pitching Michigan voters on TV.
Why?
Both candidates for president know that this state's 17 electoral votes are "in play" and will be crucial in November. Michigan has gotten this kind of attention before. The problem is what's happened afterward -- not much.
Angry Clinton Women Love McCain?
By FRANK RICH
Published: June 15, 2008
TEN years ago John McCain had to apologize for regaling a Republican audience with a crude sexual joke about Hillary and Chelsea Clinton and Janet Reno. Last year he had to explain why he didn't so much as flinch when a supporter asked him on camera, "How do we beat the bitch?" But these days Mr. McCain just loves the women.
In his televised address on Barack Obama's victory night of June 3, he dismissed Mr. Obama in a single patronizing line but devoted four fulsome sentences to praising Mrs. Clinton for "inspiring millions of women." The McCain Web site is showcasing a new blogger who crooned of the "genuine affection" for Mrs. Clinton "here at McCain HQ" after she lost. One of the few visible women in the McCain campaign hierarchy, Carly Fiorina, has declared herself "enormously proud" of Mrs. Clinton and is barnstorming to win over Democratic women to her guy's cause.
How heartwarming. You'd never guess that Mr. McCain is a fierce foe of abortion rights or that he voted to terminate the federal family-planning program that provides breast-cancer screenings. You'd never know that his new campaign blogger, recruited from The Weekly Standard, had shown his genuine affection for Mrs. Clinton earlier this year by portraying her as a liar and whiner and by piling on with a locker-room jeer after she'd been called a monster. "Tell us something we don't know," he wrote.
McCain Reaches Across the Aisle in Virtual Town Hall
By Michael D. Shear
Sen. John McCain held a novel, virtual town hall meeting Saturday afternoon that his campaign said was aimed at letting Democrats and independents ask McCain questions over a conference call.
For an hour, McCain fielded questions from a supportive group of people. Several called McCain their hero and said they planned to vote for him despite having supported Sen. Hillary Clinton in the primary.
"I'm a Democrat," said one woman. "But we're not happy with the choice of Senator Obama. Give me a bipartisan ticket ... give me something to work with to switch. I will vote Republican if you can give me a reason."
At Obama's Former Church, Hurt Lingers
Black Congregations Feel Marginalized by Uproar

CHICAGO -- They paraded through the summer-like heat last weekend in long dresses and suit coats, hundreds of families following the same paths that lead them to church every Sunday morning. They passed single-story houses and dilapidated parks before entering Trinity United Church of Christ on this city's South Side.
Across town, Sen. Barack Obama dressed in sneakers, jeans and a golf shirt. He was going biking with his wife and two daughters on a rare day off from the campaign. He strapped on a helmet, and his family pedaled north from their Hyde Park neighborhood, toward the big houses on the lake.
A vast distance separates Obama from the church he quit last month, as hurt feelings continue to fester on both sides. Obama, his patience exhausted by the most recent controversial remark from a pastor, said in late May, "Our relations with Trinity have been strained." And some of the church's 8,000 members -- as well as some other black pastors -- feel abandoned, betrayed and misunderstood after their contentious turn in the national spotlight.
Great Lakes compact needs to go to governor
June 15, 2008
As Ohio moves toward ratification of a regional compact to protect the Great Lakes from large-scale water withdrawals, Michigan and Pennsylvania remain the only two states that have not yet finalized support for the eight-state compact.
Both the Michigan House and Senate have approved the compact itself by wide margins, but they are hung up over accompanying legislation on water use.
We think it's time Lansing lawmakers get serious about ironing out their differences so that the compact can be sent to Gov. Jennifer Granholm for her signature.
Candidates vie for top post in Oakland County
By CHARLES CRUMM
Of The Oakland Press
Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence says Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson really hasn't had a strong election year challenger in four terms.
She plans to change that this year as she seeks to unseat the Republican, who is seeking a fifth, four-year term.
"I think Mr. Patterson has a legacy of some great things he has done in Oakland County," says Lawrence, a Democrat. "However, he has demonstrated he doesn't have the vision or leadership to take us to the future."

Get Osama Bin Laden before I leave office, orders George W Bush
President George W Bush has enlisted British special forces in a final attempt to capture Osama Bin Laden before he leaves the White House.
Defence and intelligence sources in Washington and London confirmed that a renewed hunt was on for the leader of the September 11 attacks. "If he [Bush] can say he has killed Saddam Hussein and captured Bin Laden, he can claim to have left the world a safer place," said a US intelligence source.
Bush arrives in Britain today on the final leg of his eight-day farewell tour of Europe. He will have tea with the Queen and dinner with Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah before holding a private meeting with Brown at No 10 tomorrow and flying on to Northern Ireland.

When you tuned in to "Meet the Press" on Sunday morning, or anything else Tim Russert was moderating, you knew three things:
You were going to get the straight goods. You were going to come away better informed. And you were going to be glad you invited this man into your home.
Russert, who died Friday at 58, was one of a kind.
