Democrats for Gas Tax Repeal

This primary is so awesome. Today at a Barack Obama rally in Michigan, a group of Democrats who disagree with Obama on gas taxes circulated a petition urging him to support the repeal of the gas tax. They got some signatures.
Recall that Obama supports "gradually" higher gas prices:
Don't you love this primary?

I'll be for a gas tax cut when somebody shows some reductions in spending. Real Republicanism is about tax cuts coupled with spending cuts. As much as it hurts, (i had to sell my truck a year ago) cheap fuel prices have cause average fuel consumption in this country to go up since the 80's. Nothing wrong with that. We all have a right to drive what we want, but I and many other folks in the military agree that consuming oil at the rate that we do is not a long term strategy. Open up ANWR, but eventually it too will run out of oil, and we need to be ready for it. Gasoline will never go below $3 a gallon in the foreseeable future. Bet on that. No matter what the taxes are. The free markets have spoken. Refineries take forever to build. Drilling in ANWR will take years to begin due to the complexity and expense of oil platforms.
Cut the gas tax, but only if somebody proves that its not going to take money away from the interstate maintenance funds. In the meantime, do what your parents and grandparents did, and be tough and stop whining.
We Republicans are about fiscal responsibility. Please don't forget that.
