Specifically WHICH "hyper-partisan" Elected Republicans Was McCain Referring To?
By Tim Schieferecke Posted in Republicans — Comments (78) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »
I want someone to tell me exactly which elected Republicans Senator McCain referred to as being hyper-partisan? Maybe I was the only one who noticed this glaring little inaccuracy in his Columbus speech, but I want to know.
Like others here, I am a political junky. As such, I am unaware of any "hyper-partisan" elected Republican. Whereas there are a precious few Republicans that stand up and do what's right, most of what I see are a bunch of scared little elephants that are much too meek to tell the donkeys stepping on their trunks to please move their hyper-partisan leftist hooves. What I see are a plethora of cowards too afraid to shoot a single duck that the left provides on a daily basis. We should, and still could be killing these libs politically for what they are doing to America.
I know Senator McCain looks up to Teddy Roosevelt as a personal hero. If he wants to emulate President Roosevelt so much, I hope he knows the term bully pulpit originated with TR. TR right or wrong never minced words to avoid being called "hyper-partisan".
So which Republicans is Senator McCain referring to? If someone can't answer this in a meaningful way, I'll assume that Senator McCain is an uber-appeaser of the left that has no stong leadership abilities to do anything but impugn his own base. I'll assume that Senator McCain has no understanding of how these Democrats are going to destroy us, and that he doesn't give a crap of what his current approach will do to the downticket Rs.
How is he going to raise enough money to wage an effective campaign against either of the Marxists he'll be running against? Assuming he wins, how does he think he'll accomplish anything when he faces off against a Democrat super-majority in the House and a veto-proof Senate that can't be stopped? He better realize real quick who his real friends are. It is not too late yet, but it's getting really close.
So please, enlighten me. The only "hyper-partisanship" I see is coming from the left. If he continues with the fetish of bi-partisanship he embraces, we will lose. Pride proceedeth the fall. True humility from intense introspection could really help Senator McCain become President McCain. Humility could make President McCain become Great President McCain instead of 4 year lame duck President McCain.
Or managed somehow to damage the comity of the senate. (You would do that by pointing out that letting Teddy Kennedy be the designated driver is a bad idea.)

That is, as long as it was before the 9 a.m. cocktail hour! He could probably have helped Ted Bundy with some strategies to get away with murder too.

He should really reread the Federalist Papers if he's read them at all. "Liberty is to faction what air is to fire, an aliment without which it instantly expires. It could not be a less folly to abolish liberty, which is essential to political life, because it nourishes faction than it would be to wish the annihilation of air, which is essential to animal life, because it imparts to fire its destructive agency." James Madison, Federalist 10.

What are his most recent notable accomplishments? McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, and McCain-Lieberman. McCain's decision to park his butt in Al Gore's church is crippling the economy, and discouraging investments. He pretends to talk like a Reagan footsoldier, but all of us "out of touch with reality" Republicans are watching his butt, not his mouth. Excellent work and highly recommended.
The trouble with our friend John McCain isn't that he's ignorant, but that he knows so much that isn't so.
I desperately want him to turn this ship around. Just think of what he could do if he said stuff like President Bush said today? We could have these libs by the jugular if he would give the go for a pre-emptive strike. You think the U.N. gave a lot of lip service to Iraq? They have nothing on Senator McCain with the libs.
Tim Schieferecke
Hey...you guys are having too much fun...can I join in?
I can't help myself...RS is like Crack to a political Junkie!
Now to what brought me out of the shadows....Preemptive Strikes!
Have you forgotten that McCain has given up the idea of preemptive strikes in his speech a couple months ago when he said he'd consult with the EU and his...I think it was..."League of Democracies" before defending the US?
If he won't defend the nation without getting permission...we can't expect him to do a preemptive strike on Barry....can we?

I expect it's any conservative Republican who refuses to suck up to the Democrats in an effort to "get things done."
The problem with "getting things done" is that what you get done is not necessarily what should be got done because the long term effects (or solution if you prefer)is worse than the problem being addressed in the first place.
But it all sounds good on paper, right?
Look, I really hate to badmouth the guy because he is a war hero and veteran but he has no grasp of the big picture. Even though I can't find it in me to vote for him, that doesn't mean I want to badmouth him. He's just not presidential material in my mind especially with his liberal tendencies. His ACU rating last year was 60!!!!
I also wonder about something else. When he was campaigning earlier in the year he intimated that he would serve only one term because of his age but now he's talking about the end of his first term?
It was 65 not 60, but still...

I will vote for him merely as a defensive strategy against the Bolsheviks on the other side. It's up to him to paint his face and stir me to the fight like William Wallace. I won't engage fully if he only lets us fight with loaves of hard, french bread against them though. Whether or not you vote for him, vote a straight down-ticket. That may be the only way we can check this cancer.
Tim Schieferecke
Given his proclivities do you think it will be any different... except for the R beside the name? He's all about getting things done. If you really think about that, the veto pen won't be used much, if at all... in the interest of getting things done.
I'm trying to help stave off an existentially bad move for America. I have no idea what the future holds, but it's high time we nail a list of grievances to the GOP's door and demand a return to sanity. If Pope John decides to continue the debasement of our Party's conservative traditions and institutions, there will be an eventual split. Make no mistake, we are in a real philosophical war for our blessed Nation's future. I want him to come back around and realize he's not infallible.

and say no more about it. It really is counterproductive and just keeps our wheels spining until November and beyond.
I admire his War record...but it has no bearing on his being qualified to be POTUS.
Benedict Arnald was a War Hero who would have gone down in History as one of our greatest Generals had the bullet that shattered his leg at the Battle of Saratoga killed him.
His war record and prior heroism ultimately meant nothing after he sold his country down the river. McCain's been selling us down the river for years now and will do so as POTUS. His War record will have no bearing on the damage he has already done to our Constitution let alone to what he will do as POTUS!

that we have a John McCain theme: bipartisanship.
I believe Barry's "change" theme will have more impact on voters than John's "aisle crossing" mantra will.
Try as John might the left will overpower by calling McCain Bush III.
Oh where, oh where are the bright fresh clean powerful primary colors?
He needs to figure out real quick who his friends are. He seems to like fair weather friends better than those who really want to stand with him.

After all, I think I've spoken disparagingly of a few Democommies, a time or two, and I've been notably unwilling to reach across the aisle, except with my JesusStick™ (That's the stick that Eko had on the TV show Lost, for those who suffer with me).
And if I am hyper-partisan, I'm not sure what the word would be for Erick, Moe, Pej, Jeff, and the team here. For while I've been kind of tacky with the Dems, THOSE guys have been outright salty.
Maybe let's call them uber-partisan.

It still comes from another country even if its a Texan speciality. And I love microbrews, I just can't stand the big brewery-when I see a Coors commercial, I ask myself, why are these men who are not in college reducing themselves to that level. Coor's is 20 bucks for a 30 rack, surely these men with jobs can do better. Again, I threadjack, but I'm sure you'll forgive me :-)

Washington. To have a hyperpartisan situation requires there to be at least two opposing sides to a political argument. All I see is a meek and gentle giant (the Rs)being whipped and kicked by a bunch of mindless little Lilliputians who could be flicked away like the annoying little flies they are. We are the right-wing for a reason. We're right!!! Our traditional mode of governing is based on sound, proven principle. Theirs is based on the push-poll populist soundbite of soft-lisp spoken tyranny of false compassion. Our house is built on reinforced concrete, theirs is built on beach sand in a tidal pool! Why we don't just engage and destroy them with the truth is simply beyond comprehension to me. This vaccuum of Daschle-lite Republican leadership must come to an end. If it doesn't, get used to a new big-tent category of Republican. We will soon need to introduce the category Socialist-Republican to our lexicon. I'm not comfortable with that.

He has gotten far by being the Liberal's favorite Republican. But now he is the Republican standard bearer. After the conventions, when they turn all their guns on him, he is going to find out that twenty plus years of building bridges to a bunch of hungry sharks is going to count for exactly squat.
But he is far too ignorant and far, far too stubborn to change, so If elected it will be the Bush administration all over again, Republicans get called names, lied about, and walked all over, and the White house blames rank and file Republicans.
I just do not understand why so many of you cannot see what a total train wreck this man will be.

...or "post-partisan", yet he doesn't give a damn INCH on anything. He is as rabidly partisan as anyone in the senate. Just because he joined with Tom Coburn on some ethics bill doesn't mean he is bipartisan. He doesn't budge one bit on anything, be it health care, taxes, spending, Iraq, whatever. He is a doctrinaire left-wing liberal that votes party-line on EVERYTHING.
