Tancredo Endorses Romney (comments open)

Diplomacy is the art of saying 'Nice doggie' until you can find a rock.

Yah, I thought Fred too.

I'm guessing he thinks Fred's a loser so he wants to pick a winner. He wants Chertoff's job maybe?

I thought it would be Fred, too. by St. Louis Conservative

I'll trade the Tanc endorsement for Steve King!

Fox is still stuck on Rudy coming out of the hospital "anytime now". I figured Tom would head to Fred's campaign.

A little surprised. by redneck hippie

Most people expected the endorsement to go to Fred. Personally I have not been a fan of Tancredo, but I welcome any and all of Tom Tancredo's supporters to take a look at Fred and his border security plan.

I was thinking of Fred too rather than Romney, but I'm just glad he didn't drink the Kool-Aid and endorse Huck. I'm not sure this hurts Fred, possibly helps Romney some (very little, really).

Tancredo has made some nutty comments recently about nuking holy sites, the guy is right on immigration but not exactly POTUS material.

But I'd take this any day over Gilchrist.

He's definitely backing Romney.

Nope. by No King but God

Tom T. was pushing an issue that needed pushing.

It takes guts to stand up and say you are licked.

If only Ron Paul and Duncan Hunter would join him.

(Alan Keyes is just a loon at this point)

Then we would be down to the big five.

Any bets on who would endorse whom if they dropped out?

I'm guessing:

Hunter endorse Fred or Mitt
Paul endorse nobody
McCain endorse Rudy
Rudy endorse McCain
Fred endorse McCain
Romney endorse Fred
Huck endorse McCain

Very Surprised by wennejunk

Of all the remaining candidates Fred has the best immigration policy, recognized by multiple players on the issue.

I guess Tancredo is dancing to the same music as everyone else out there when it comes to thinking Fred can't win.

I'm very disappointed in his choice, although Mitt would be my #2.

Tom Tancredo may have been a one note symphony as a candidate, but he knows a lot about that one note and his endorsement means a lot.

A transcript

I am withdrawing from the race and I'm endorsing Governor Romney for president of the United States.

Throughout the campaign, I've learned a great deal about the candidates. I've certainly been impressed with Governors Romney -- Governor Romney's ability to solve very complex problems. And I believe he is a man of personal integrity and great character.

I think he would bring honor to the Oval Office.

I don't much care for Tancredo's positions, but that's a pretty good recommendation.

"We need to unite behind someone other than Huckabee"?

Giuliani seems to be fading fast.
McCain is ... well he's McCain.
Thompson still seems to be a day late and dollar short. (Heard his wife on Hannity. Maybe she'd be the better candidate.)

I'm getting the feeling that maybe people are thinking Huckabee gives them the creeps and Romney's at least better at some important things than any of the other who appear to have a chance of winning. My opinion of Romney went up with his religion speech and I could see jumping on his bandwagon.

as far as I'm concerned. But I don't vote, and it may help him with some of those who do.
