...it's a curious situation. You read the newspapers and you think the world is going to hell. You think the economy is doing badly. And yet, the truth is, that we have never in our history had as productive an economy as we do now.
--Milton Friedman. (Thanks to Greg Mankiw for the link.)
Via Don Boudreaux. What sensible person does not miss Friedman nearly a year after his death?

I land smack dab on Milton Friedman. Not a single modern politician even lands in that quadrant (libertarian right). Anyway, Uncle Milt is good company indeed.

about, how people claim to beleive in freedom, but never practice it? I forgot it.

btw, I like this one "If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in 5 years there'd be a shortage of sand." -- Milton Friedman

There ought to be a Milton Friedman subsection to RedState. What an absolute giant. When Donahue asked his first question I could think of a dozen ways to respond but Friedman's answer was so perfectly effective I really got a sense of his greatness. In a day where people are starting postulate merits of socialism/communism, we ought to organize a Milton Friedman Day on his birthday to communicate these simple truths of the free market, because they need to be over-communicated to the American masses.
I have to give credit to Donahue, though. He had the man on his show and let him answer the questions. That fairness in sharing opposing viewpoints harken back to a day when liberals didn't realize people would oppose their ideas when debated fairly.

Put him on the front page as often as possible. We need to be reminded of how to respond to the socialists and the people who think the state can do better than individual citizens.
Socialism doesn't work. It looks nice on paper, but it's been tried and it's failed miserably every time (usually accompanied by widespread death and suffering).

How sweet it is to see the man so thoroughly put in his place.

you know Donahue thought he was asking "gotcha" questions.
Met Freidman a few years ago when he was on a NR cruise to Alaska and we had a reception for them here in Juneau. Even in a grip 'n grin environment, the man was marvelous and the intellectual horsepower self-evident.
