Tony Rezko, friend, ally, and fundraiser for self-procralimed Democrat presidential nominee Barack Obama (Democrat-IL) and Gov. Rod Blagojevich (Democrat-IL) was convicted minutes ago on 16 counts of corruption.

"Rezko has known Obama since he entered politics and was involved in a 2005 real estate deal with the Democratic presidential candidate," according to the AP.

I expect to see some hay made by a 527, with reference to the real estate "deal" and fundraising.

Ok, so by reagonite

what has Obama been accused of?

Being the Messiah.

A charge punishable by Election.

That's an evasion by reagonite

Just answer the question. Has he been accused of anything?

Oh, you're serious?
Hmm. As far as crimes go, I do not think anything.

Keep in mind though, Obama is not running on experience, he is running on his good judgement.

His good judgement has led him to be surrounded by people like:
Rezko
Wright
that white catholic preacher
his marxist wife
terrorists from the Weather Underground (who never felt bad for their attacks, only feeling bad that they couldn't bomb more)

...and as taken a favorable view of Marxism, a form of Communism, which has lead to the death of over 100 million people in Soviet Russia alone (who knows how many in Communist China)

I'd say, offhand, that his judgement is pretty piss-poor.

What say you?

of hysterical rantings.

But thanks for answering my question. He has not and will not be charged with a crime in connection with Rezko.

You cannot know how deep this is until all the evidence comes out.

hysterical? Then please by LanceKates

hysterical?

Then please explain how the list of people I referenced shows the good judgement ability of Obama.

Also, be careful with will not. "Has not" and "will not" are totally different. One involves a look at history, the other is a shot in the dark as to the future.

I will guarentee you this though... by this weekend, if not sooner, Rezko will be forgotten. MAYBE a mention or two on Fox News into the weekend.

----------------------
Dependence is Slavery.

Rove's name came up in connection with Rezko, too. McCain also has his fair share of scandals.

What this comes down to is the narrative that the right has created to destroy Obama's character in the public's eye. The problem is that it isn't sticking, and no one wants to hear Mrs. Obama called a marxist. The Wright scandal was played out for all it was worth, allowing Clinton a slight comeback but not enough for victory, and it has also largely faded.

Rezko will be forgotten because there's nothing of substance there; at worst this condemns Obama as being just another politician, but the believers don't care and the moderates never thought otherwise. Wright will be forgotten because he was condemning American foreign policy, and enough people generally agree with his statements that they don't care if the statements weren't tactful or befitting a preacher.

As for judgment, that's impossible to prove one way or the other. Most people on this site are hyper-partisan one way or the other, and thus impossible to sway. You pick the worst possible set with which to smear Obama and then ask us to validate his judgment with only this data. We could play the same game with McCain.

The largest problem the right faces is that Obama generally wins on policy; not necessarily because his way is right, but because the American people are fed up with Bush's way, and McCain is close enough to Bush to make the policy battle difficult, to say the least. Your best hope is to destroy Obama's character, not to debate him on policy. You have done a great job in reaching out to those who read this website, but the MSM can't make anything stick. Maybe they're not trying hard enough.

I do look forward to the debates. I wonder how Obama will play it out, some of his positions seem too extreme for the electorate at large. I also wonder whether McCain attempts to tack back towards the middle on abortion; as it is he'll have a hard time keeping the Hillary votes with a staunch pro-life stance.

Look here one day wonder-you are either an Obamabot troll or a very bad moby. Time for you to read the site rules and go away if you can't comply.

Personally, I'm mildly indifferent to being called hyper-partisan by anybody who thinks that Obama's good at debating. So no need to apologize to me.

Rest assured, when were done with this guy, by November his own communist wife won't even vote for him, let alone 51% of the likes of Missouri or Ohio.

I can't believe the gift you guys are giving us of not nominating Hillary. She and Bill would have killed us.

So some say by SNR

That's certainly Hillary's argument for why she should be the Dem nominee.

Frankly I don't buy it. Obama has a small-donor base unmatched in history, and he is outraising his opponents by significant quantities. In the modern political campaign cash is king, and Obama has it. This might be the first election in recent memory that Republicans don't have a significant cash advantage.

He also polls less negative than Hillary. He has mostly weathered the Wright debacle, and he won't stand still like Kerry did in 2004 for the swift boat attacks.

Time will tell, I suppose.

You're under the assumption.... by St. Louis Conservative

...that Wright, Ayers, Rezko, etc are over and done with. Those things are going to be dredged up again and again and again before November. I love listening to liberals and media types who talk about these things like they're "over". They aren't. Not even close.

Also, you're making a mistake if you compare the general election electorate to the Democrat party electorate. The country as a whole will likely be a lot less forgiving than the Democrat primary voters of these types of things.

“.....women and minorities hardest hit”

Of course by SNR

These things will be dredged up over and over and over, as will the Keating Five, as will McCain's "We'll be greeted as liberator's comments, etc.

By the time November rolls around perhaps the public will be so disgusted with the process that no one will vote.

I don't consider this race a given, but I'm certainly not optimistic.

And I'm not against McCain because he's a Republican (Dems certainly don't represent my views), but because he can't be trusted given his flipping on issues in recent years. I was very much for Bush's stated platform in 2000.

if you look at polls they show a growing lead for Obama. On this chart, the vertical line to the right of the vertical line representing the beginning of 2008 (the one with "2008" right below it), that is the beginning of March, which is around when the Wright stuff aired. He went down a little, recovered, and now is more popular than before.

Not that said impressive lead during that time didn't keep Obama from losing Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Indiana. The problem here for the Democrats is that Obama is suffering from Generic Democrat Disease; which is to say, better polling than his vote percentages, unless a particular race happens to play to his strengths.

That being said, he'll probably do better in HtH with McCain for a while, assuming Clinton concedes.

you're too kind by Zombie Flanders

I hope you and I are still around in like 60 years, I am going to find you just so I can say that, despite being old and wise, I am still a Liberal Democrat...but anyway, in what form did reality come along and "mug" you? I ask because 1) I figure it is the type of question you'd answer, and 2) I can then explain to you why it won't happen to me. And I know what you are thinking in response to that last bit, but I don't care, it won't.

None of this changes the fact that up 'til now the Wright thing hasn't hurt Obama so much as you say. You can argue that I'm naive, but the numbers are not.

Also, I looked over the comments in your diary quickly, and it reminded me of all the parties we'll be having when Obama is elected in November. WOOOOOO!!!! West Philly will be hoppin. We'll fill a keg with whiskey and pass it out to random people on the street. When the police come we'll bribe them with whiskey.

and im underage.

Define "hasn't hurt". by St. Louis Conservative

Obama built an insurmountable lead before Wright and Ayers hit. In the primaries since, he got blown out by Hillary (except for a few states that had huge black populations). He lost the remaining primaries in March thru June by a combined 600,000 votes, and Hillary now has more popular votes than he does. I can almost guarantee you that Obama would have been toast had the Wright tape came out in December.

Anyhow, I can almost guarantee that there more large shoes to drop on this dude before November. Although his radical leftism and anti-Americanism should be enough for McCain to win.

“.....women and minorities hardest hit”

The reason by Zombie Flanders

The reason I used national polling is because is makes up for the possibility of outcomes being affected by which states vote when. For example, the fact that WV/KY voted Hillary was not because they were after Wright, that woulda happened anyway, they are just strong Hillary states. As for non-black post-March states where Obama was not blown out, he won Montana and Oregon, and lost close in TX/OH/PA/IN. Though I forget if TX/OH is pre or post Wright, it was in March.

He was behind in all the states he lost in the polls way before Wright. In PA, for example, over the 6 weeks after Wright he made up ground. Not because of Wright, but because it was the same pattern that happened everywhere, irrespective of Wright. But don't take my word, look at the natty p.

I agree that he woulda lost had Wright happened in December, but for a different reason. I think most of the people who voted for him, and who will support him, and who do in recent Obama/McCain polls which show it close, heard about Wright, heard Obama's response, and accepted it (at least the ones paying attention). In December, he woulda not been given a chance to explain and give a "race speech," he woulda just been crowded out.

He was, indeed, in the Marines. For 2 years, then left the Marines to join the navy so he could work in the states.

He did, indeed, take part in LBJ's operation and received awards for it, even though that operation was less dangerous and heroic than many other lives that were saved by others who received no awards or honorable mentions.

However, what does his military service have to do with being an anti-american rabid racist?

Tim Schieferecke

This is why by Zombie Flanders

This is why I referenced a moving average of polls, not a single poll, or even a single series of polls. Sure you can always find a poll that will back you up, but not this many...there are like a hundred here...unless you have ish with the entire polling regime in the whole country.

But let's take your point for the sake of argument, no different than Rove or McCain. So much for the above the fray outsider that's untainted like those before him that's going to take politics to a higher level.

Just another politician surrounded by suspect characters, you're right.

"Honor is self-esteem made visible in action." - Ayn Rand, West Point, 1974

Uh, his wife spouts marxist ideals.

You did hear her 'piece of pie' speech, right?

What this comes down to is the narrative that the right has created to destroy Obama's character in the public's eye.

*smirk* We've created this narrative? All we've done is report what is happening. If people saying what Obama says or telling what he's done bothers you, perhaps you shouldn't be supporting him.

The problem is that it isn't sticking, and no one wants to hear Mrs. Obama called a marxist.

No, YOU don't want to hear her called a marxist as it is damaging to your case that Obama is splended.

The Wright scandal was played out for all it was worth, allowing Clinton a slight comeback but not enough for victory, and it has also largely faded.

Which only shows the anti-american (and dare I say anti-white) nature of far too many in the Democrat party.

Rezko will be forgotten because there's nothing of substance there;

No, Rezko will be forgotten because remembering him damages the Media's poster-child, Obama. If Rezko had been doing shady deals to help President Bush or Senator McCain instead of Senator Obama, the name would be leading every news station every day and night.

Wright will be forgotten because he was condemning American foreign policy, and enough people generally agree with his statements that they don't care if the statements weren't tactful or befitting a preacher.

"No no NO! Not God Bless America! God Damn America!" - 'Rev' Wright.

If democrats 'generally agree' with Wright's statements, what does that say about the Democrats and those who support Obama?

As for judgment, that's impossible to prove one way or the other.

You can VERY easily prove good or poor judgement. You look at who a person surrounds themselves with. In Obama's case, those people are corrupt, racist, anti-american, terrorists or marxists..... That says that either Obama agrees with their nature, in which case he can't be president as he is a supporter of Marxism and Terrorism against the United States.... OR.... it says that Obama has HORRIBLE Judgement, which is what he is running for President based on.

If a man can't even pick good friends, he can't lead a country. So which is it?

How many more people does Obama need to say "That isn't the person I knew" about before you'll accept that he either is lying and agrees with them or just has horrible judgement?

You pick the worst possible set with which to smear Obama and then ask us to validate his judgment with only this data.

I don't 'pick' anything. It is what he has given us to work with. You can't blame the messenger in this one.

We could play the same game with McCain.

I'm not a big fan of McCain, but who does he hold as a close friend who compares to members from the Weather Underground, a terrorist group that bombed American sites with the only regret that they could not have done more terrorist attacks?

Your best hope is to destroy Obama's character, not to debate him on policy.

I'd love to debate Obama on Policy..... when does he talk about policy? Between the speeches saying that Hillary needs to quit and speeches throwing yet another 'good friend' under the bus, I haven't heard him really talk about anything except his desire to steal profits from oil companies and raise taxes to levels higher than Clinton had.

Please do explain his very detailed policies that he's expoused in debates....

have done a great job in reaching out to those who read this website, but the MSM can't make anything stick.

They CAN, but Obama is who they WANT.... even they admit it. Why would you make dirt stick to the one you've chosen as the messiah of your party?

I wonder how Obama will play it out, some of his positions seem too extreme for the electorate at large.

The american people agree with Wright's talking points, but might find Obama to be too extreme?

You really are a big Obama fan, aren't you?

Is Barak actually good at anything besides given pre-canned speeches?

His character judgment is TERRIBLE. I realize Chicago has a lot of slime (I am a former resident of the Second City), but he is beating the odds in terms of nut-jobs.

His ability to reach across the isle is NON-EXISTENT. There are no examples of this. He can't even unify his own party.

His ability to be tough has never been demonstrated. He never confronted any of the radical nutjobs that he comes into contact with. Not one story of Barak challenging anything not said by republican politician.

Barak is a talented man, but he has few skills and no record of achivement in anything.

I wouldn't vote for Barak as dog catcher based on his record.

....and it will matter a GREAT deal this fall. Obama and his sycophants are DREAMING if they thing this is going to go away, along with Rev Wright, Ayers, and others. This stuff will be dredged up over and over and over by the GOP and by inependent 527s. It will bog him down big time.

Obama has admitted receiving over 50,000 dollars from Antoine Rezko, convicted felon. Rezko was one of his first political benefactors in Chicago. Governor Blagojevich has been implicated in this same corruption scandal. Need I remind the lib that these are CHICAGO politicians we are talking about here. Rezko's wife just happened to buy the lot next door to the new Obama house and helped them to finance the purchase of a house at BELOW MARKET prices while the Obama's were not able to afford such a luxurious purchase.

Obviously, Rezko was only helping Obama out of the generosity of his pure and humanitarian heart. Just like Obama was helping Reverends Pfleger and Wright recieve pork projects out of the generosity of Barack Carter's heart..

"Small town folks get bitter after which they cling to guns or religion, or antipathy to people who aren't like them, or anti-immigrant sentiment"- Barack Carter Obama

I think Rod Blagojevich has got to be real worried right. Rumor has it that there are several sealed indictments for other Illinois politicians, including Blagojevich. I'm sure Fitzgerald is going to try and coax Rezko into cooperating in further prosecutions with some kind of leniency deal.

"...DuPage County State's Attorney Joe Birkett, who ran against Blagojevich in the 2006 race for governor,...added,
'The conviction of Tony Rezko represents a deep stain on the Democratic Party in Illinois. Democrats from top to bottom, including Barack Obama, stood idly by — and in some instances directly benefited — while the massive Blagojevich corruption scheme flourished. They rode into office promising to clean up after the George Ryan scandals and they have taken corruption in Illinois to a new low. They ought to be held accountable at the polls starting this November.'"

In any case, what I find interesting is that jurors disagreed on just one count of charge. The guilty verdict was reached on 16 of 24 charges. Out of just 8 charges, only one was almost deadlocked on.

Maybe you do have a case, but I don't think jurors have enough of political acumen to recognize the value of spilling beans a couple of days before the last primary contest is done with. But then I could be mistaken. Anything is possible, but I'd suggest that we wait for more information on why the verdict of a single charge was nearly deadlocked on.

SEE LARRY’s STORY BELOW. Excerpt from HillBuzz report today:

The Michelle Obama Rant Tape was filmed between June 26th - July 1st 2004 in Chicago, IL at the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition Conference at Trinity United Church: specifically the Women’s Event.

Michelle Obama appeared as a panelist alongside Mrs. Khadijah Farrakhan and Mrs. James Meeks.

Bill Clinton spoke during the Conference, as did Bill Cosby and other speakers, but not at the panel Michelle attended.

Michelle Obama spoke at the Women’s Event, but referenced Bill Clinton in her rant — his presence at the conference was the impetus for her raving, it seems.

For about 30 minutes, Michelle Obama launched into a rant about the evils of America, and how America is to blame for the problems of Africa. Michelle personally blamed President Clinton for the deaths of millions of Africans and said America is responsible for the genocide of the Tutsis and other ethnic groups. She then launched into an attack on “whitey”, and talked about solutions to black on black crime in the realm of diverting those actions onto white America. Her rant was fueled by the crowd: they reacted strongly to what she said, so she got more passionate and enraged, and that’s when she completely loses it and says things that have made the mouths drop of everyone who’s seen this. …

The “tape” is a DVD that Trinity United sold on its website …

Breaking News from HillBUZZ

To answer your question: the general consensus among the Contributors regarding the Infamous Whitey Tape seems to be that, absent it actually surfacing, we can't really act as if it exists; and that there are enough supposed details available now that determining whether it actually exists should be a straightforward exercise.

That being said, none of us would be particularly surprised if it did exist, except at possibly Ms. Obama's lack of political survival instincts.
