Via Mr. Eugenides comes this . . . masterpiece. If only William Hague could return as Tory Leader, he would make the Tories worth voting for again.

The Conservative Party was led by William Hague. And it was, just about worth voting for. Not because he was funny and articulate - if that won elections the Conservative Party would have gained rather more than one seat at the 2001 general election, for a net gain of zero under Hague's leadership. It was worth voting for because the policies were (just) better than Labour's. The policy was to be exactly the same as Labour on all issues other than Europe - a not insignificant difference.
But I am glad that my party now stands for something more and is promising - in addition to different policies on Europe - to have different policies on tax and education too. If the Cameron government achieves nothing other than delivering on its pledge to bring in education vouchers, that itself will be revolutionary. It will be the first really serious reform in the welfare state for sixty years. It will be a bigger achievement (at least domestically) than was managed by the Thatcher governments.
I am sorry, Pej, that you would apparently not vote for the Conservatives if you could. But, hey ho. I can. I will.

David Cameron is my favorite Conservative Politician at the moment. Here's one example why.
