By haystack
You can't make stuff like this up people...
The DSCC, among the many other Liberal self-important elitists out there, has their undies all in a bundle because they don't "get" Cowboy humor. Being high and mighty elitists precludes any genuine understanding of the "country" culture, or a decent appreciation for a fine Stetson, or even a shiny pair of bonny-new Tony LLama's for that matter....just ask Obama where that God and Guns remark got him. NOR do they have any ability to comprehend why anyone would poke a little fun at himself; taking one's self too seriously ALL the time is a founding principle for being a Democrat you see...
So, what does the pretty little city boy Democrat Media Consultant named Dean Rindy have to say about the Cornyn "flap" that isn't?
"This is a disaster for John Cornyn, because it just makes him look silly," said Democratic media consultant Dean Rindy. "They don't stop to realize Cornyn's not the Marlboro man. He's a plump, pasty politician in cowboy drag."
[...]
"There's nothing worse than looking foolish. Better to look crooked than to look silly. People want a strong US Senator. Not a fake cowboy," Rindy said.
Rindy wouldn't know a real Cowboy if he took a spit of dip to the forehead from one...and it's no real surprise to hear a Democrat suggest looking crooked is a good thing either...but really now-can the little kiddies on the left lighten up a little?

Posted at 4:03pm on Jun. 24, 2008 How dare John Cornyn demand ethics and disclosure from sitting Senators?
By Jeff Emanuel
Texas Senate Ethics Committee ranking member John Cornyn (R-TX) will introduce an amendment to the controversial mortgage/lender bailout bill that would require Senators to list their residential mortgages as liabilities on their financial disclosure forms.
The amendment, which would take effect next year, would require Senators "to disclose the date the mortgage was acquired, the rough amount, the interest rate, the term and the name and address of the creditor."
According to Roll Call, the proposed amendment, which has reportedly garnered support from at least five other Ethics Committee members, "appears designed to address the fallout from the revelation that Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Chairman Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), the housing bill’s sponsor, and Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) received favorable mortgages from Countrywide Financial."
As reported here before, Dodd, the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, had suspicious dealings with Countrywide Financial, the mortgage lender Sen. Barack Obama -- for whom Dodd has been a pledged Superdelegate since February -- has been railing against on the campaign trail even while appointing another beneficiary of the organization to help vet his potential Vice Presidential candidates.
Despite his shady dealings and preferential treatment from the lender (or perhaps because of it), Dodd's name is on the landmark mortgage-bailout legislation now pending in the Senate, which will bail out Countrywide, among others, using an obscene amount of taxpayer dollars.

Posted at 6:45pm on Jun. 12, 2008 Cornyn Gets It Right On The SCOTUS "Gitmo" Decision
By haystack
The US Supreme Court today gave rights to non-citizens..you know, the ones killing and trying to kill Americans? yeah-those non-citizens.
The Supreme Court, for the third time, rejected President Bush's policy for holding and trying foreign prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and ruled today these men have a right to seek their freedom in a hearing before a federal judge.

Posted at 3:32pm on Jun. 4, 2008 At Least *Someone* Up There Gets It: Cornyn Reminds Us Of Unintended Consequences
By haystack
US Senator John Cornyn, representing the greatest State in the nation, has a news release posted at his official Senate website that is a must read for anyone that thinks this Cap and Trade nonsense is...well, nonsense. Titled "Climate Debate Must Be Mindful Of Unintended Consequences", the good Senator from Texas shows that HE, at least, gets it regarding the problem(s) with the Democrat majority's master plan to destroy the economy...err, I mean, save the planet:
The bill [S. 3036] appears to implement a $6.7 trillion program that could undermine economic growth, raise energy costs for American consumers and send jobs overseas to countries such as India and China. We need a thoughtful and serious debate on how to be the best stewards of the environment possible. As we do this, I hope Congress pays heed to the law of unintended consequences, including what impact it might have on the budgets of families in Texas and across the country.
At a time, when many working families are struggling with high gas prices, we must take steps to address this problem, and not add to it.
I have been ranting and I have been raving for two days about Democrats preferring "Comprehensive Global Climate Protection" (to the tune of trillions of dollars) over chipping away, Conservatively, one piece of this at a time. I'm fine with giving the planet a couple aspirins over the next 10 years to break her "fever", but I am NOT ok with Congress ruining our lives NOW, so they can prop us back up later with bloated Government and wealth redistribution and tax breaks for the poor and middle class by giving us "tax initiatives to protect us."
On the Senate floor Cornyn continues trying to get these crazy Democrats to understand what's at stake, and who the real problem is:
[I]nstead of dealing with that urgent need that affects every man, woman, and child in this country, this Congress has decided to head down another path and that path is a bigger government, more taxes, higher energy costs for electricity and gasoline and with the uncertainty that any of this will actually have an impact on climate. Especially given the fact that countries like China and India of a billion people each are not going to agree to impose this upon themselves. And so America is going to do this, presumably, while our major global competitors are not and we're going to suffer not only those higher prices, but job losses, reduction in our gross domestic product, and a competitive disadvantage with the rest of the world. Why would we do that our ourselves? At the same time we see this sort of Rube Goldberg bureaucracy that would be created. I think that Senator Dorgan yesterday said that this bureaucracy would make "Hillary care" pale in comparison with its complexity as reflected on this chart. This is the kind of huge expansion in government power over our lives and over the economy that is really unprecedented in our country, and I suggest is the wrong solution -- is a wrong answer to what confronts us today.
Props to Cornyn for the "Rube Goldberg" comment...he gets it...why is this so hard for the Democrats?

Posted at 11:15am on Mar. 31, 2008 Everyone Loses in the Earmark Game
By Senator John Cornyn
Many of my colleagues profess to be bewildered by the extremely low poll ratings being generated by the current U.S. Congress. They hear that the public is not happy with the way Washington operates, but they don’t believe they need to do anything about that -- as if all that unhappiness was somebody else’s problem, and not their own.
I’m not so sure. I believe the public discontent can be accurately sourced, and Congressional earmarking process has become a symbol for wasteful and undisciplined federal spending. Earlier this month, I joined a bipartisan group calling for a one year moratorium on all earmarks. That effort failed. We missed a major opportunity to show we are serious about tightening our Congressional belts during a difficult economic period.

Posted at 4:15pm on Feb. 6, 2008 Semper Fi THIS... Berkeley Freaks
By haystack
So sayeth John Cornyn, and Jim DeMint, and quite a few others in Congress ...well, they didn't say THAT exactly, but there's a little bit of THIS being said:
DeMint-
"Berkeley needs to learn that their actions have consequences," DeMint said in the release. "Patriotic American taxpayers won't sit quietly while Berkeley insults our brave Marines and tries to run them out of town."
Cornyn-
"The Berkeley City Council insulted our troops and offended people across the country. If the U.S. Marines are not good enough for Berkeley, neither are taxpayer dollars Congress would have sent there this year. That city closed its doors on the same individuals taking bullets on the front lines while fighting for the safety and freedom of families in Berkeley and throughout America," Sen. Cornyn said.
"The Semper Fi Act sends a strong message of disapproval—backed by tangible consequences—to the Berkeley City Council. It also shows support for the Marines whose selfless sacrifice is worthy of our admiration. I encourage all my Senate colleagues to support this legislation.”"
Amen boys...and good call.
