Barack Obama And The Audacity of The Big Lie

By Dan McLaughlin

The Democrats have an Iraq problem. The war has, for some time, been broadly unpopular, and the Democrats have tended to just assume that this should translate into Democratic votes, as the Democrats have been publicly identified as the anti-war party. But reality has a way of intruding. One problem is that some of the people who are most dissatisfied with the war are those who think it hasn't been waged aggressively enough, and naturally that's the group most inclined to support John McCain, a vocal supporter of the war but also a vocal supporter of a larger troop presence in Iraq for some years now. Another problem is that being locked into a narrative of defeat runs them up against pesky reality in the form of the counterinsurgency "surge" strategy and the improvements it has made in the military and political situation in Iraq, even through inevitable challenges like the recent counterattack in Basra. A third is the poor historical track record of dovish candidates in the race for the White House. But the broader problem is simply that their candidates don't have any sort of defensible vision for how regional security and America's place in the world would be improved by a headlong retreat now.

The serious, adult solution to this is to try to lay out a vision of how America's willingness to accept defeat in Iraq would not be like the dolorous consequences of defeat in Vietnam, or other great-power defeats in history. The easy solution is just to lie about McCain's position. Guess which one they chose, especially the Obama campaign, which is committed to pretending that you can plan for the future based on everything since 2002 never happening, rather than dealing with the world as it now is? I can't possibly improve on Charles Krauthammer's explanation of how McCain's vision of a permanent base structure in Iraq has been turned into "100 years of war in Iraq":

Posted at 8:59am on Feb. 23, 2008 The "Jamil Hussein" Maneuver Rearing It's Ugly Head

By Martin A. Knight

Here's how it works;

Liberal reporter or politician makes a multi-part claim of some atrocity or some other happening that can be be laid at the feet of the nearest Republican e.g. a soldier who is a Private by the name of John reports that his platoon regularly wore children's skulls as headgear, used armored cars to saw dogs in half all the while being forced to go out on missions/patrols without ammunition thanks to profits for Halliburton!

Conservatives and Republicans question the story because it sounds (and is) incredible. Liberal reporter/politician produce a Private whose first name is John and who once came across a grave yard where he saw some bones. They then declare themselves "vindicated" and then attempt to blow past the fact that no other person in the Private's unit or command line can verify a single one of his claims.

Ace puts it in his own distinct style here.

Posted at 9:26am on Jan. 23, 2008 Lies, Misrepresentations and More Left-Wing Extremist Propaganda

By California Yankee

To paraphrase President Reagan, there they go again.

Associated Press writer, Douglas Daniel has written an article promoting more lies, misrepresentations, and left-wing extremist propaganda trying to revive the loony left's thoroughly debunked fiction that we were "misled" into war in Iraq by "false statements" and "lies."

On Yahoo the Douglas article is titled "Study: False statements preceded war." But CBS News, the ever accurate former employer of Dan Rather, originally carried the article under the headline "Study: 2 Years Of Lies Led To Iraq War. That was too much even for the President Bush hating propagandists at CBS, who toned it down to "Study: 'False Pretenses' Led U.S. To War."

I am so very tired of this propaganda. Mr. Douglas does not acquit himself well as a reporter here. Perhaps that is why he is identified as a writer. He does little, other than regurgitating the misleading talking points put forth in the press release posted on the Web site of the cleverly named Center for Public Integrity. According to wikipedia, despite its claims to be a nonpartisan news organization "the Center has been accused of bias toward left-wing political causes because it has accepted money from organizations and individuals that favor liberal policies and/or actively oppose right-wing political causes."

Posted at 9:08am on Dec. 17, 2007 The absurdity of Michigan Democrats

By RightMichigan.com

Cross-posted on Right Michigan at www.RightMichigan.com.

Detroit's City Council is a "structural absurdity," according to this morning's Ivory Tower but believe me, that's not the only absurdity in the State of Michigan these days.  Track down a local Detroit Democrat, a Democrat State Legislator or a Democrat special interest group and absurdity abounds.  But let's start with that Detroit City Council and work our way from the less absurd towards utter insanity.

The Ivory Tower opines this morning about the need to change the make-up of the Detroit City Council.  Members are currently elected "at-large," meaning there isn't necessarily any geographic representation for large portions of the city.  And it just so happens that one of these portions is an almost exclusively Hispanic part of town.
